Manningtree First Responders are always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested you would ideally need to live in Manningtree, Lawford, Mistley, Bradfield, Brantham, Ardleigh or Dedham, aged over 18, have a full driving licence, the use of a car and spare time to give.
Volunteers usually start by joining us at our fortnightly meetings held at the Masonic hall on South street in Manningtree to get more of a feel for what we do. The next step is an informal interview with the group coordinator. After this, the application process is taken over by an administrator in the Ambulance service and includes a DBS check, occupational health check and character references before a place on a training course is offered.
The training course is completed over five days and covers basic life support, use of an automated external defibrillator, oxygen therapy, management of medical conditions, Responder safety, risk assessment etc. This is followed by an observation shift on an ambulance to experience various situations with support from fully trained paramedics.
Volunteers then begin by accompanying other First Responders until they are confident enough to attend calls alone. It is acceptable for Responders to work in pairs and some of our group do so.
Volunteers are supplied with a high visibility jacket, polo shirts and vehicle signs which are attached magnetically when on-call.
To volunteer or obtain further information please contact us or feel free to attend a group meetings.
